Who We Are
Anvil Fire Protection was established in 2001 by Stephen D. Kovacs, a native to Southwest Pennsylvania. His career in Fire Protection started in Maryland in 1984 as a design technician. As the awareness of the benefits of fire protection grew, so did the technology and the requirements to install sprinkler systems. In an effort to further his education and knowledge of fire protection, he began testing with National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) for certification in the field of Automatic Sprinkler System Layout. After working in the Maryland/Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia area for 11 years, he returned to Pittsburgh with his wife, Wendy, to raise a family.

At Anvil Fire Protection we use computer aided drafting, or CAD, to design fire protection systems. Our program of choice is FireAcad®, a third party developer, designing their program to run in conjunction with AutoCAD, the most popular CAD system used by architects and engineers all over the world. They also offer a "stand-alone" version that doesn't need AutoCAD. FireAcad® is a fully functioning 3D program, including hydraulic calculations and automatic material listing, that is designed to be compatible with interference coordination programs still in development. With advancing technologies and the growth of the Internet, many people and companies are already operating in a virtual environment. In the near future, coordination of building systems and components will be taking place "on-line" and FireAcad® is prepared for that. It's more practical and efficient to identify conflicts and resolve problems in the design stage rather than on the jobsite. Eventually, compatibility will be a requirement. FireAcad can also automatically convert your entire drawing to metric and back, including pipe sizes, cut lengths, elevations and dimensions. FireAcad® had the insight to predict these trends years ago and that's why we use and support FireAcad®. Anvil Fire Protection is also an authorized reseller and training provider for FireAcad®. Our Mission
Our primary goal is to protect life and property the world over. Our secondary goal is to raise awareness in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as well as other states, to the benefits of fire sprinklers through education and promotion of their use in both commercial and residential applications. Many neighboring states already have regulations in place requiring sprinkler systems in single-family homes. If we can help even one family avoid tragedy, then we can consider our mission accomplished!
